Committee Duties:

Awards Committee – Chair Xiaotan Yu

The Awards Committee will oversee nominations, budgets, and awarding of Travel Awards, 50- and 60- year ACS Membership Awards, Iota Sigma Pi Awards, and any monetary sponsorship of clubs or events within the community. The Awards Committee will work closely with the Budget Committee.

Budget Committee – Chair Jim Manore

The Budget Committee will track expenses, create a budget, and handle payments for the Local Section finances. The Budget Committee will work closely with the Local Section Treasurer.

Communications and Publicity – Chair Emma Macturk

The Communications and Publicity Committee will draft filter paper issues, update the Local Section’s website and LinkedIn group page, and act as a liaison between the Local Section and local media outlets such as news, TV, or radio stations. The Committee will work with the Education and Program Committees to promote member activities and community outreach to appropriate outlets.

Education (and Outreach) Committee – Chair Savannah Bennett

The Education Committee will oversee educational programs relating to student or general community learning. This includes but is not limited to planning National Chemistry Week, Chemists Celebrate Earth Week, Chemistry Olympiad, and other outreach and educational events.

Membership Committee – Chair Kingsley Safo

The Membership Committee will be responsible for promoting membership involvement within the Local Section at all levels. The Committee will collect and communicate requests from the membership body for activities, events, scholarships, and more. The Membership Committee will work closely with the Nominating and Elections Committee to identify candidates to serve our Local Section as an Executive Board member.

Nominating and Elections Committee – Chair Susan Del Valle

The Nominating and Elections Committee will identify Executive Board candidates from self-nominations and/or our membership body, host elections, and report election results to membership and ACS National. The Nominating and Elections Committee will work with the Membership Committee to identify candidates with broad backgrounds and skills that could serve our Local Section in the future. 

Program Committee – Chair Erica Price

The Program Committee will organize events for members such as member meetings, speaker lectures, or awards presentations. The Committee must consider details such as venues, caterers, interactive programs, and advertising. The Program Committee will work in conjunction with the Education Committee, Communications and Publicity Committee, and Budget Committee.
